Flotilla 94 meets the first Thursday of the month at  the River Forest Community Association building in East Fort Myers, Lee County, Florida.  The flotilla supports the boating community in an area extending from East of Fort Myers to Lake Okeechobee.. Activities include boating safety classes, vessel safety equipment examinations, distribution of boating safety information, conducting safety patrols on area waters, marine safety and culinary support to Coast Guard units, and offering speakers for area club and organization meetings and events.
 

       Boating Safety classes are offered at the River Forest Colmmunity Association building, and at Beef O'Bradys in Lehigh Acres.

Overview of U. S. Coast Guard History

Formed as the Revenue Cutter Service by Alexander Hamilton, today's United States Coast Guard is the oldest armed, uniformed service in continual operation since 1790.  In 1915, the Federal Lighthouse Service, lifesaving Service, and Revenue Cutter Service were combined to form the United States Coast Guard under the administration of the U.S. Treasury Department.  In the 1960s the Coast Guard became a unit of the U.S. Department of Transportation, and in 2003 it became a unit withing the Department of Homeland Security.  .

The Coast Guard Auxiliary was established in 1939 by act of Congress as the uniformed civilian volunteer component of the U. S. Coast Guard.  Today's Coast Guard Auxiliary consists of more than twenty-two thousand men and women who help save lives by promoting safe boating and supporting active duty Coast Guard units through a large number of competencies and tasks.
